WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
On October 3rd Polish women are taking part in a nationwide strike to defend their basic reproductive rights against the joined forces of conservative right-wing government, Ordo Iuris legal institute and… the Catholic Church in Poland.
We stand with them in solidarity and to voice our outrage over yet another attempt to reduce us to our reproductive function!
WHY ARE WE PROTESTING?
The legislation currently in place allows for abortion in three cases:
— when a woman's life is in danger
— when the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest
— when the foetus is permanently damaged/terminally ill
But this can soon change…
Last Friday two bills were submitted for Polish parliament's approval:
One, submitted by progressive social movements and political parties, which would allow for legal abortion up to 12th week of pregnancy, introduce sexual education in schools and allow wider access to contraception was rejected in the first reading.
The other one, proposed by Ordo Iuris, which would ban abortion in all cases with no exceptions and could lead to imprisonment if a miscarriage occurs and seems 'suspicious', was passed along to a parliamentary commission for further development.

Women in Poland are now in danger of having their basic reproductive rights taken away from them and so we all come together to protest and make October 3rd our #BlackMonday, like women of Iceland did 41 years ago in fight for their rights.
We are not going to work; we are not working at home. Instead, we all wear black and we are meeting in (…..) in solidarity with all the women in Poland.

Lokalnie znany jako "czarny protest", oficjalny strajk odbędzie się w ponad 60 polskich miastach - informuje independent.co.uk. - W geście solidarności ogromna liczba przedsiębiorstw i korporacji zamknie w tym dniu swoje drzwi, to część strajku. Protestujący namawiani są do ubrania czerni i postowania specjalnych grafik w mediach społecznościowych. Polska już teraz ma jedne z najbardziej restrykcyjnych przepisów prawnych w Europie - zaznacza "The Guardian" - Wiele polskich kobiet twierdzi, że wkrótce mogą zostać ograniczone fundamentalne prawa człowieka, a nowe przepisy uderzą zarówno w ich bezpieczeństwo, jak i godność.
Kobiety z Islandii nawiązują w tym filmie do wydarzenia z 24 października 1975 roku, kiedy 90 procent kobiet przerwało pracę, by strajkować. Organizacja Narodów Zjednoczonych ogłosiła 1975 rok Rokiem Kobiet. Feministki z Czerwonych Pończoch przekonały 90 procent kobiet z Islandii do wyjścia na ulice. Efekt? Islandia była pierwszym państwem na świecie, w którym wybrano kobietę na prezydenta, a dziś to właśnie Islandia jest uznawana za jeden z tych krajów, które najbardziej sprzyjają kobietom.
